If securing a new tech job was one of your 2025 resolutions, then look no further as Senitor is here to help you maximise success with our 10 top interview preparation tips for tech candidates! Bookmark this page for your job hunt to help ensure you are making a great first impression in your next job interview:

#1 Do your research

Step one of interview preparation = do your research! You need to understand enough about the company and the job role to be able to communicate your enthusiasm for joining, and most importantly what makes you a great candidate fit! Always check out the website, particularly their careers page, social channel content and the job advert / job description before your interview.

#2 Prepare for questions about the organisation

Interviewers frequently ask questions about your motivations for joining a company like theirs, so it's important to be prepared with thoughtful answers to potential questions. Three questions we suggest you line answers up for are:

Why do you want to join our company?

What do you already know about the company?

How would this role fit into your career goals / future aspirations?

#3 Revisit your CV

Clients will likely want to learn more about your experience and may take a closer look at your CV. We recommend reviewing it thoroughly to ensure you're familiar with and up to date on all the details, including your roles and responsibilities. Print a copy to have in front of you during your phone / video interview, or hand to the interviewer in your face-to-face.

#4 Be ready to highlight relevant achievements

Having examples of how you've made an impact in previous roles is always valuable, particularly when these achievements align with the skills and qualities required for the role you're interviewing for. Be prepared to highlight relevant projects you've worked on (as long as you're able to share details of course) to demonstrate your abilities to the interviewer.

#5 Know your tech

Be prepared for both technical and scenario-based questions during the interview. These help interviewers assess how you would fit into the team and your approach to work. For some roles, they may focus more on your technical skills and previous responsibilities. Focus on the essential tech stack for the role, and your technical strengths and lead with these first. They may ask you technical questions to verify your level and understanding, such as:

What sorting algorithms do you know and which one do you feel is best? (Data)

Explain how you would reverse a string in Java? (Development)

#6 Plan ahead

If you’re traveling to a face-to-face interview then you want to aim to arrive 10-15 minutes early, so plan your route, factor in traffic / potential delays, and ensure you know how to access the building and who to ask for on arrival. If it’s a phone / video interview, ensure you have good Wi-Fi / phone signal and a quiet room where you can focus.

#7 Dress the part

If working with a recruiter like Senitor, your consultant will provide guidance on the interview dress code. However, our advice is always to be overdressed than underdressed! First impressions count so make sure you factor this in to how you present yourself on the day.

#8 Prepare your own questions

Remember, you’re not the only one answering questions. Come prepared with your own questions to determine if this role and company are the right fit for you. This could include:

Company questions - e.g. Where will the company be in 2-5 years’ time? What is the company culture like? How do the different divisions within the company interact?

Job questions - e.g. What would be my biggest challenges within the first 3-6 months? Would I have performance reviews and/or a development plan?

Interviewer questions e.g. How long have you been with the company? If I got the position what would be the best advice you could give me to make it a success?

Tech questions - e.g. Are there any new technologies the company will be introducing for projects in the next 12 months? What percentage time would you expect I’d work on front end vs back end vs automation?

#9 Close the interview

If this is the role you want to secure an offer for then it is important to close the interview correctly. Ask clearly what the next steps would be, express your interest and always ask the interviewer if there is anything they feel you haven’t clarified or anything that concerns them at this stage – this gives you a chance to put any doubts to bed by giving more detail on certain questions. Last but by no means least, thank them for their time – eye contact, smile, handshake – all the classic gestures to help end things on a positive!

#10 Follow up on next steps

If you are working with Senitor for your job hunt, then the next step would be to call your recruitment consultant straight away with detailed feedback so that we can help navigate the next steps on your behalf. If you applied directly then you’ll want to follow up as agreed in your last interview – often waiting to hear back from them directly.
